Spring has sprung and while some people held on to a perfect pool routine over winter some of you might be stoked to remember there is a pool in the backyard :)
No matter which category you might belong to: the weather is warming up, we are all stuck in lockdown and school holidays are coming up. It is time to get the pool back on track!
Here are some tips what to do at the start of the pool season:
- How does your water look?
If it is crystal clear or even a bit cloudy - good job! You are almost ready to jump in.
If it is green and you can barely see the bottom, come straight to the shop
to do a water test and get appropriate chemicals or book in with the technician for a
green pool treatment. No swimming for your kids right now.
- Supposing you are not in team green: check your water level.
Ideally your pool is filled up to is half way up the skimmer box opening. If your water level
is low, throw in a hose and fill it up.

- While your pool is filling up, check you equipment.
Your pool equipment should have been running for at least 2 - 4h a day during winter. If not,
turn everything back on. If you can see leaks or something is making a weird noise, get our
technician to come and have a look.
If you have a cartridge filter, hose it out or if you can't get it clean you may need a new
cartridge element for the coming season.
If you have a media filter, give it a big back wash. (Caution: Only if your water level is high
enough!)
Empty the pump and the skimmer basket.
TIP: BOOK IN WITH OUR TECHNICIAN FOR A PRE-SEASON-CHECK.
- Your equipment is all good? It's time to clean your pool.
Scoop all the leaves and larger debris out.
Once settled again, vacuum the floor and the steps. If it's not too bad and you have a
cleaner, let it do the job for you.
If there is still dirt stuck to your floor and walls, give it a brush.

- Get your water tested.
Grab a water sample and bring it to the shop. We will test the water for you and tell you
what chemicals you need to add to balance your pool. Depending on how much the pool is
getting used, we recommend to get it tested with us fortnightly or at least monthly.
- Back at home - add the chemicals as advised and set your equipment.
During spring, your equipment should run for at least 6 hours during the day.
Adjust the setting of your chlorinator according to the results of the water test.
Turn on your heating system, so your water has enough time to heat up.
- Last step: Jump in, have a swim and relax :)
That all sounds like too much work? Skip the first steps and let us do them, so you can go straight to the swimming part! BOOK IN FOR A REGULAR OR CASUAL SERVICE
